ATHLETICS: Race-walker Sharon Tonks took the honours in the latest Winter League meeting, held at Birmingham's Perry Park at the weekend.
The Redditch & Bromsgrove athlete had been looking forward to a head-to-head with Commonwealth Games silver medalist Lisa Kenler but the Wolverhampton walker was forced to withdraw from the event.
Instead Tonks raced against her old adversary Katherine Horwell in the 5km race consisting of two laps each with a steep climb.
Tonks chose a steady first lap, increasing her speed on the second, on her way to a very comfortable win in 25min 29s. Horwell came home second in 27-11.
The final league meeting will be held at Tamworth on November 27.
