LORNA opened the meeting on October 25 by thanking everyone for coming and introducing the committee and visitor, Stuart Head, Community Support Officer from West Mercia Constabulary.
Lorna said Pam Wilkins was the new point of contact at the repairs and maintenance department and that she would be invited to one of our meetings once she had settled in.
A member reported waiting a considerable time for her ramp to be done, and Lynn Jones asked to see her after the meeting so that she could look into the matter.
Lorna brought up the ongoing problem of Ron Ward's extractor fan, which is unchanged.
Another member referred to bushes blocking the view outside her front door, these needed lowering, nor was there any access to her gas meter.
Lorna suggested getting Colin Pitt to come out and meet the people with these problems, so that something could be worked out.
She also suggested we reported our concerns directly to the department so they could be recorded.
Phil Henshaw suggested the path leading from Breaches Lane towards Bartleet Road needed new tarmac surfacing.
Phil said he had reported a streetlight nine months ago, which was still not repaired, and also some old posts from missing signs which were not removed and were highly dangerous.
There were concerns about trees which were uprooted or dead, and falling or leaning on others, which posed a real danger.
Some were in the wood near the Halfords factory and others near the playing fields on the cycle path the other side of Icknield Street South.
There were also concerns about cars left on verges, with "for sale" notices which raised safety concerns. Juliet said they could be ticketed if they were on council property.
Mr Grady voiced his concerns about older racers and children on motorised bikes racing around the fields, often with parents' consent. This was echoed by others who had to contend with them on the pavements.
Juliet confirmed Pc Wilkins' previous advice - that it was difficult to do anything about it without the help from the community in identifying them.
There was a lot of discussion on the newly sited bus stops. The members were informed this was for the Safer Routes to School, nevertheless the general opinion was that the disabled were considerably worse off, as many were unable or afraid to use the underpass, and still had to cross the road as there was no pathway . It was suggested we write and ask WCC to move the stops back.
Lorna said she had been to the Tenant's Panel Meeting where she voiced the concern of the community that Matchborough West was not considered in the new three-year enhancement programme, Woodrow always seeming to be top priority. It was agreed we should write and make known our objections to this.
Stuart Head gave us a description of his role within the community, and Lorna thanked him for attending.
The meeting closed at 3.30pm.
Our next meeting will be on Monday, December 5 at 7pm at Matchborough meeting rooms, Clifton Close, and will include special Christmas refreshments.
