THE latest police clampdown on Worcester's yob culture is a strong signal to those who make so many lives a misery that persistent bad behaviour will not be tolerated.
Make no mistake - there is a war going on. This particular conflict is taking the form of a number of localised battles with individuals who think the law doesn't apply to them. Happily, they're going to be in for quite a shock.
When a Section 30 is applied to a locality, the police have - at long last - real powers to deal with trouble, swiftly and effectively. This newspaper is happy to give the thin blue line the support it so richly deserves.
However, punishment of offenders is only part of the process. It is not enough in itself. Many of these louts, whether we like it or not, are the citizens of the future. Somehow or other, they have to be set an example. And that is exactly what is happening.
Various groups have joined together to demonstrate just how life can be improved. Litter picks, tidying gardens and open spaces not only create a more welcoming environment, but also send a powerful message to those who have not yet learnt to value their surroundings.
