ONE of Worcester's largest employers has been put up for sale by its parent company.
Global software group Misys plc has announced it is considering options for realising shareholder value from Misys General Insurance, which employs nearly 300 people at its base in Buckholt Drive, Warndon.
Misys supplies IT solutions to over 2,000 insurance brokers, and owns Countrywide - the largest network in the UK with 800 members. Misys plc has made the decision as it wants to concentrate on its core activities - the major software markets of banking and health care.
What form the realisation of shareholder value will take has yet to be decided - but options include floating Misys GI on the stock market or selling it to a venture capitalist.
Misys GI CEO, Phillip Bell, said the move would not have any impact on the companies day to day activities.
"We are essentially an autonomous business, which is a net financial contributor to Misys plc," he added.
"Additionally, a new ownership structure in which the general insurance business is a core activity could have a positive impact on the future of Misys General Insurance.
"A new owner's readiness to make further investments in general insurance could accelerate benefit to our customers and hence, the business.
"I believe this presents an exciting opportunity. It is unlikely that an outcome will be reached any sooner than three to six months.
