A couple whose eyes met across the dance floor celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary today.

Reg Robinson impressed his wife-to-be, Edna, with his moves at the popular Stew's Dance Academy in Silver Street near the city centre and they never looked back.

"I always used to aim for the best dancer and when I found a better one I moved on," she said.

"But I never found a better one than he was, so I stayed with him."

Mrs Robinson said the secret of having a successful marriage was give and take and having a sense of humour.

"He's completely reliable and is the best security I've ever had," she added.

"We've also been very lucky with good health and have a wonderful family."

The couple, both Worcester born and bred, worked together at Archdale's, a machine tool manufacturer in the city's Bilford Road, near Perdiswell.

He was a toolmaker and fitter and she worked in the printing department.

The couple, of Penhill Crescent in St John's, Worcester, married at Claines Church in 1945 and enjoyed a honeymoon in Bristol and Exmouth.

Mr Robinson said that his 81-year-old wife made their home a happy one for him and their children, 57-year-old Michael, of Bewdley, and Valerie, aged 51, who lives in Uganda. "I think she's a wonderful homemaker," said Mr Robinson, 84, who spent his life working in the tool manufacturing trade.

"We are a very close knit family and my wife has always made the children very welcome."

They will be reunited with their daughter for the occasion when she returns for a holiday from Uganda, where she is a missionary.

Other relatives will be travelling from Scotland for the family celebration.

The couple have five grandchildren, aged between 16 and 30 and two great-grandchildren, aged five and three.
