A DROITWICH family narrowly escaped serious injury when a firework rocket exploded in their bedroom after being deliberately launched next to their home.
Fiona, Colin, and six-week-old Miranda Addy, were woken by the sound of fireworks outside their St Augustine's Close home at about 12.30am on Thursday.
As dad Colin Addy got out of bed to close the window and shut out the din, a rocket shot through the opening and exploded at his feet - just inches from the cot where Miranda was lying.
Mr Addy threw himself backward into the bedroom door, injuring his arm but escaping serious harm.
He suffered a blast injury on his thigh. The incident which he said was like someone throwing a stun grenade, also left Mr Addy with a loud ringing sound in his ears.
He said: "The rocket shot into the room and exploded. The room filled with smoke and I had to throw myself away from the blast.
"Thankfully, it didn't land in the cot where my daughter was. We are very lucky."
Someone launched a box of 25 rockets next to the house before fleeing from the scene.
The rockets bombarded the side of the building and smashed guttering before one ricocheted off the eaves and through the window.
Mrs Addy said: "We have had some sleepless nights already. I just can't think about what would have happened if the fireworks had landed only a few feet the other way.
"There were fragments of the rocket everywhere in the room, I felt absolutely sick. We are now going to get Miranda's ears checked because her hearing could be damaged by what has happened."
The police took away the device that launched the rockets and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
A spokesman for Droitwich police said: "This incident, which appears to have resulted from incredible stupidity and total lack of thought for circumstances, could have resulted in a serious injury."
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 08457 444888, quoting 15S/041105.
