THE force policing Wyre Forest has been ranked among the best performing in England and Wales, according to a new joint report.
Factors contributing to the accolade for West Mercia Constabulary included excellent crime investigation and enthusiastic leadership.
Results of the Police Performance Assessment Framework, published by the Home Office Police Standards Unit, combined with a baseline assessment carried out by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary, led to the high rating recognition.
In seven aspects of performance considered in the framework report, West Mercia was rated either good or excellent, with improvement in five since 2003-04. They included reduction and investigation of crime and promotion of safety.
The baseline assessment looked at the force's performance in 26 key areas, including neighbourhood policing, crime reduction and investigation of major and serious crime.
It graded West Mercia as excellent in three key areas, good in 19 and fair in the remaining four.
Chief Constable Paul West said: "To be so highly rated is a huge tribute to the enormous commitment, enthusiasm and dedication shown by every member of staff to provide a professional service."
