THREE volunteers from Kidderminster have helped to create a charity's new lifestyle website.
Sarah Baker, Sally Edwards and Ren Davies are members of Wyre Forest Self Advocacy, based at Burage Lodge, Franche Road, which helps people with learning disabilities take control of their life.
They were among a group of volunteers from the West Midlands with learning disabilities who designed and created Mencap's website YAP, which stands for Young Active People.
It was funded by The Vodafone UK Foundation and has videos, music, activities, games and chat for people of all ages.
It was launched at Celebrate and Motivate, a volunteering celebration event at Tatton Park, Knutsford as part of the Year of the Volunteer campaign. The event was attended by Coronation Street star, David Neilson, who plays Roy Cropper. Hollyoaks actors, Ashley Taylor Dawson, who plays Darren Osbourne and Matt Milburn, who plays Joe Spencer, also helped with the celebration.
Miss Baker, 23, said the website launch was a "fantastic" experience, adding: "It was quite exciting. I think we were really nervous. We didn't know what to expect but it was a fantastic experience. People were so amazed about what we did."
The group spent several months researching what young people wanted on the website and they plan to continue developing it.
Miss Edwards, 21, said: "It was good to be part of something important. We wanted to prove to people what we can do. People think we can't do things able-bodied people can do but we wanted to prove we can."
Mr Davies, 24, said: "I hope other big organisations will see this website and think 'we want to get involved with young people with learning disabilities'."
