ROYAL BRITISH LEGION WOMEN'S SECTION: A coffee morning raised £257 for the poppy fund. It was held at Pershore Royal Naval Association headquarters, it was well attended by members and friends including Mrs June Wildman, county chairman.

At the November meeting Wendy Griffith, chairman, introduced the speaker for the evening, Mr Bob Hares, who talked on autumn colours and had many different plants to prove his point. This was enjoyed by members. The chairman welcomed back Lorna Wilton and new member Diane Jeffries.

Names are being taken for national conference at Blackpool, April 25-27.

At the December meeting Pershore will play host to members from the area group - old and new members are welcome.

ARTS THEATRE CLUB: At the meeting on October 21 the speaker was Carolyn Greet, who gave a talk on Cheltenham High Street in 1810, comparing it by means of slides with the way it looks today.

On November 2, 25 members and friends attended a performance of The Barber of Seville given by the Welsh National Company at Birmingham Hippodrome. Outings are also planned to Malvern Theatre on December 4 to see Snow White on Ice and to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in the New Year to see Great Expectations.

The next evening meeting will be in the Courtyard Room at Number 8 Community Arts Centre on Friday, November 18, at 7.30pm when the Rev Kenneth Crawford will give a talk on Heraldry. Prospective new members and visitors are always welcome, Contact Mrs Dot Chapman on 01386 552989 about future events.

LADIES' GUILD: There should be some expert Christmas wrapping adorning the presents given by the Ladies' Guild members this year, after they were treated to a demonstration given by Bernadette Munnally at their November meeting. Mrs Lockhart gave the vote of thanks.

It is hoped to present a cheque to a representative from Pershore Talking Newspaper at the December meeting and members were asked to think about their choice for next year's charity.

The chairman reported that a cheque for £25 had been sent to the Royal British Legion in aid of this year's Poppy Appeal and said that she would attend the service in the Abbey on Remembrance Sunday when she would lay the wreath on the Guild's behalf. This is the wreath that was made by Mrs Mellor last year.

Christmas boxes are not being collected this year, but if anyone has unwanted toys and gifts, Mrs Lockhart will deliver them.

Members were requested to put their names forward if they wish to be nominated for next year's committee, as four members will be resigning.

Another letter had been received from Wychavon District Council about the garden refuse bags, but it appears the council is not even considering making any changes to the present system. Members were urged to keep complaining about it to local councillors.

The next skittles meeting will be on November 15 at 10am - all members welcome. The Guilded Lilies are now rehearsing for various Christmas performances.

The sales table raised £44.

The next meeting will be on Tuesday, December 6 in Wulstan Hall at 2pm when Mrs A Pulley will give a demonstration entitled Too Good to Eat - sugar decorations, and there will be a raffle.
