SIR - I am writing in response to the story ("What a waste, Saturday, October 29) regarding the vandalism at the Brum recreation ground in Fernhill Heath.
I have lived in Fernhill Heath for 12 years now, in a house that looks on to the Brum itself.
For the first nine years this was a lovely little park used by many children. But these children are growing up into very bored teenagers. I have witnessed a few cases of vandalism caused by youths at the Brum.
The recently-erected youth shelter is a total waste of money providing nothing more than a park bench does. In fact the teenagers seem to prefer to climb on to the roof to sit. The remaining £32,000 refurbishment grant should be used to update play facilities for younger children and teenagers. But surely a good percentage of this money should be used to install CCTV, a system that Wychavon District Council have already installed at the Abbey Park Pershore. So any future acts of vandalism can be recorded and culprits named and dealt with.
MRS RACHEL CLARK,
Worcester.
