A CHARITY providing information to people with disabilities has been given a £3,000 cash boost.

The Disability Information and Advice Line - DIAL - covering North Worcestershire, including Wyre Forest, announced the news during its annual meeting in Kidderminster.

It took place at the Blackwell Street premises of Connect (Wyre Forest), Worcestershire County Council's new facility for people with disabilities.

The cheque for £3,000 was presented to DIAL by the Royal Antideluvian Order of Buffaloes - RAOB, a philanthropic organisation during the meeting on Tuesday last week.

A three-year development project is about to be carried out by DIAL, with financial support from the Lottery Fund. It will help improve the existing helpline service through the appointment of a dedicated, full-time worker, with some administrative support, to complement the work undertaken by volunteers.

The charity's recently appointed chief officer, Jim Smith, said in his introduction to the meeting: "This is an exciting time to be joining a team composed, principally, of enthusiastic and experienced volunteers and I'm looking forward to building on the excellent work that has already been done."
