I LIKE thousands of other residents of the Cotswolds are appalled at Nick Brown's proposals to scatter wind turbines all over the Cotswold, not to save the World but for financial gain for his company Greenamps.
At public meetings he has tried to persuade people that the only way to help the country to meet the requirements of the Kyoto agreement is to follow him in his attempt to attract government grants with a quick fix and totally uneconomic proposal to produce energy from renewable resources.
I am even more appalled that, in the face of total local opposition, our deputy prime minister should override a democratic decision to refuse huge wind turbines on Romney Marsh. If we, in the Cotswolds, do not take a very firm stance it will not be long before the whole country is covered with these towers. They are a very poor answer to a real energy policy. Our Government, far too late, has not grasped the necessity of real long term energy policy and have wasted their resources with grants for this form of generation, which all the real experts recognise as short term and ineffective.
Far too many people consider wind farms as the answer to the World's problems. They are not, and the public should be made aware of this.
