Market Drayton men's 1st XI 5 Bromsgrove men's 1st XI 4

A SECOND half fight back almost earned Bromsgrove a point in a goal-laden encounter in the Coaching Solutions West Midlands Division One on Saturday.

Bromsgrove showed spirit to battle back from a 4-0 deficit at half time and give promotion rivals Market Drayton a fright.

The Boars were the better side in the second half, but a solitary goal by Market Drayton made sure Bromsgrove were denied a point.

Despite defeat captain Julian Court was pleased with the spirit his team had shown.

He said: "We didn't deserve to lose the match.

"In the second half there was only one team in the match. If the game had gone on a bit longer then we would have won the game."

Bromsgrove went into the game against a side containing potent forward Brendon Jones.

The striker had scored ten of Drayton's goals and once again showed his predatory skills.

Jones bagged four goals, increasing his total to 14 to make him the league's top scorer.

Bromsgrove went into the second half reeling, but Bevan Edwards pulled a goal back.

Richard Rawsthorne though edged Bromsgrove's opponents back into a four-goal lead.

However, Bromsgrove were not to be denied and top scorer Pete Hall bagged his seventh of the season.

Hall and Matthew Russell then scored late on as Bromsgrove pushed for the leveller.

Court though felt that some of the umpire's decisions favoured Market Drayton.

Court said: "I think some of the umpiring decisions were wrong and helped Drayton.

"I was pleased with the way we fought back.

"It would have been easy for our heads to drop and for us to lose by seven or eight goals."

Bromsgrove will be aiming to get their title hopes back on track when they entertain mid-table Old Silhilians at home on Saturday (1pm start).

Court said: "We have to be ruthless to beat teams like Old Sils.

"They are decent sides, but I feel we should be beating them."

Clive Robinson misses the match but Nick Frizzell is set to step in for him.
