I WAS appalled to read that it is being proposed to cut a large number of services at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch, and transferring them to Worcestershire Royal.
I remember when Bromsgrove had at least six hospitals taken from them with the promise that the Alex and the Princess of Wales hospitals' would cover everything they needed.
There was the Cottage Hospital, Hill Top, All Saints, Barnsley Hall, Lee Hospital and Highfield.
The opportunity to encompass some these needs came when the Princess of Wales hospital was opened, but there never was an operating theatre, so it became a community hospital. The Alex then became the general hospital.
To transfer services from there to Worcestershire Royal is frightening, especially as patients as far away as Rubery will have to make this journey if they are critically ill and time is important. Will that mean that the Alex will go down the same path and become another community hospital?
