THE Droitwich Canals Trust would like to thank everyone who phoned in to ITV's People's Millions lottery programme on November 1 to 'vote for the boat'.

Thanks to this tremendous support we were successful in winning the £50,000 on offer. We would also like to thank members of the Spa Youth Club, Kingsfield Day Centre and Droitwich Spa Civic Society, and everyone else who joined us in Vines Park for the filming, and the town's Mayor, Cllr Richard Morris, for his support.

We will be asking Spa residents to help us again with the design and construction of the 'boat' which will be a recreation and seating area in Vines Park in the shape of a Wych Barge. The project will also bring history alive by showing the importance of the Wych Barges and the canals in the history of Droitwich's salt trade.

We are particularly grateful to Kim Chester, of the Waterways Trust, for organising and managing the bid to the People's Millions on behalf of the Droitwich Canals Partnership.

The partnership now working to restore the Droitwich canals comprises British Waterways, Worcestershire County Council and Wychavon District Council as well as the Droitwich Canals Trust and the Waterways Trust.
