TRAFALGAR'S 200th anniversary was celebrated in style by the Worcestershire branch of the Association of Wrens with lunch at the St Andrews House Hotel, Droitwich. It was funded by Home Front Recall, part of the National Lottery, and the hotel had decorated the room with special banners and balloons supplied by the Big Lottery Fund, and made it look very festive with a portrait of Nelson and small White Ensign flags in place of honour.
There were 56 present. Ex-Wrens, friends and carers from Bromsgrove, Worcester, Evesham, Malvern, Stourbridge and Stourport. The guest speaker, who also proposed the toast to the Immortal Memory of Admiral Lord Nelson, was Peter Ward, who served in the Royal Navy and is a Bromsgrove author of two books, From Africa to the Arctic and Pacific Voyage. Home Front Recall is part of a special lottery programme called Veterans United set up to make grants to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the events that led to the end of the Second World War and to ensure new generations can learn from their experiences.
