REDDITCH'S dog warden has been shocked by the number of stray animals which have been found following the bonfire weekend.
Julie Edmonds said it was a "record weekend" with 11 dogs being found, one of them in a very poorly state.
Some owners have been located but four dogs are still at the kennels
A British bulldog was found in Lodge Road, Smallwood, a Springer spaniel was found in Matchborough, an elderly crossbreed was found in Batchley and a young terrier was picked up in Lodge Park.
Mrs Edmonds said: "The bulldog is in a terrible state and we're extremely concerned about it.
''It has a bad case of mange, which it is now being treated for.
''It looks as if someone may have used it for breeding purposes and simply abandoned it when they had had their money's worth.
"One of the dogs was chipped and we contacted the owner but as yet, they still haven't come forward to claim their pet.''
She added: "This was a record weekend for the number of strays found - it's been bizarre.
''Some of them may have run scared from home because of the fireworks but sadly, it looks like others may have been completely abandoned by their owners."
Anyone who believes one of the dogs is theirs or has information about possible owners can call Mrs Edmonds on 07799 887536.
