AS the people of Redditch start thinking about Christmas trees, turkey and trimmings, a charity is asking them to remember loved ones and help raise funds for its vital work.
The Tree of Light appeal is one of the most symbolic events run by the Primrose Hospice each year, serving as an act of remembrance and celebration of life.
The appeal has proved hugely popular in previous years - in 2004 the community rallied round to raise £18,500.
The Primrose Hospice is once again launching its annual Tree of Light appeal on Thursday, November 17 as part of the Kingfisher Centre's Christmas illuminations.
The hospice, based in St Godwald's Road, Bromsgrove, has joined forces with the Advertiser for the ninth year running to launch the campaign.
Names of loved ones will be displayed around the base of the tree. The remembrance book will be in St Stephen's Church in Redditch town centre.
Hospice community fundraiser Lyn Winters said: "For most people Christmas is a happy time but for many it's a time for reflection.
"We're very grateful to the generous townsfolk for thinking of the Primrose Hospice as well as their loved ones at this special time, when we think about those who have played an important part in our lives and are no longer with us."
The tree will be situated behind Debenhams.
