DROITWICH Spa's disabled swimmer star Kim Briggs ended a difficult year by winning a host of medals in recent weeks.BACK IN THE SWIM: Kim Briggs returned after a run of injuries to win four medals.
Briggs, aged 17, overcame a host of injuries, which effectively ruined a year of her young career, to bounce back with medals at national and regional levels.
Briggs won two medals at the Limburgh Swimming Trophy in Belgium and then continued her return to action by winning two medals at the National Short Course Swimming Championships in Sheffield.
She said: "I'm not back to my best, but it feels great to be back in action.
"It's been really frustrating not to be competing for such a long time.
"It's the first time I have ever been hit by injuries and I probably rushed back a little to early, because I was so hungry to compete. It's a mistake that I won't make again.
"Hopefully all my injuries are behind me now and I can concentrate on swimming.
"I'm looking forward to getting back to training."
A catalogue of problems has hampered Kim, who has Cerebral Palsy, all year.
The injury nightmare began in April when she sprained her ankle and then broke her foot twice and needed surgery on both her legs to improve her balance and movement.
However, she showed glimpses of her form in Belgium when she won gold medals in the 50 metres and 100m freestyle races, while representing Great Britain.
In Sheffield's Pond Forge facility a week later she won silver in the 50m and bronze in the 100m.
