CHELTENHAM'S annual three-day Open Meeting has become synonymous with the very best Jump Racing in a cordial yet competitive atmosphere.
Tomorrow is Countryside Raceday - an occasion when the racecourse takes on the atmosphere of a traditional country fair. Displays of birds of prey and hounds in the parade ring, 80 trade stands in the tented village and a parade of huntsmen on the course creates a unique blend that attracts over 15,000 people to enjoy the action.
Top billing on the course is the Sporting Index Cross Country Steeplechase over the hedges, banks and timber, which became the private domain of Spotthedifference over the course last season.
The day benefits the Countryside Alliance and Greatwood Caring for Retired Racehorses.
Saturday sees the running of The Paddy Power Gold Cup - the first Classic Steeplechase of the season and one of two races on this exceptional card that includes the BHB's Order of Merit.
Last season Celestial Gold gave Martin Pipe his sixth win in the race in nine years and he is sure to be looking to extend that remarkable record against the best that Paul Nicholls, Philip Hobbs, Howard Johnson, Peter Bowen, Nigel Twiston-Davies and Jonjo O'Neill can offer.
International rugby is also on the agenda as England clash with Australia that will will be centre stage on the big screen in the Centaur with bars remaining open until the final whistle.
The racing quality does not miss a beat on Sunday with leading contenders lining up for the Greatwood Handicap Hurdle which attracted Accordian Etoile, Westender, Perouse and Rooster Booster last November.
Add wins by Brewster and Fundamen-talist and you will get an idea of the treats in store for another large and enthusiastic crowd.
The sporting tone of the day will be set with a challenge between Club 16-24, Cheltenham Ladies College and Young Farmers' Clubs in the paddock before racing starts at 1.05pm.
Friday's first race gets under starter's orders at 1.10pm with the next day's extravaganza starting at 12.55pm. Tickets can be booked by telephoning 01242 226226, in person at the course or on-line at www.cheltenham.co.uk
