SIR - Regarding New Labour's promise of funding the rebuild of Christopher Whitehead School, it appears that they have no collective responsibility.
This is what was published in the local Press on Wednesday March 9: "The Government has pledged £12m to end years of confusion over the future of Worcester's Christopher Whitehead High School.
"The promise came yesterday during a meeting between county council bosses and Stephen Twigg, the Government Schools Minister who toured Chrissies.
"Mr Foster added: 'The way forward is now much clearer. The new school will be built, the cash issue is now resolved'."
Then, on Friday, October 14, it was reported:
"The row broke out after the Government turned down a county council bid for £12m to rebuild the school."
This was published on Tuesday, May 3:
Mike Foster - Labour: "Education remains our number one priority. In Worcester, Labour will continue to rebuild or refurbish schools - including every single secondary school in Worcester."
Where does the local MP's allegiance lie - with the Government or with Worcester and the electorate?
As important as the fact that the promise has been broken, is the fact that the school still requires rebuilding.
We look forward to hearing Mr Foster's intentions. If no action is proposed by Mr Foster, or higher authority has decreed that the school is no longer important, then the least the honourable member can do is resign.
JONATHAN MILLER,
Worcester.
