A DRIVER is fighting for her life and two other people narrowly escaped serious injury when a lorry lost its load on a Worcester road.
The flat-bed white Mercedes lorry was travelling along the A443 Witley road in Holt Heath towards Tenbury when two stainless steel silo covers fell off.
One of these hit a red Ford Fiesta travelling in the opposite direction and the driver lost control.
Her car bounced off a wall and ended up in a hedge. She was cut free from the wreckage last night and taken by ambulance to Worcestershire Royal Hospital, where she was being treated today for life-threatening injuries.
Traffic was diverted for several hours while police dealt with the incident.
A blue Ford Galaxy travelling behind the Fiesta was also hit and its male driver was taken to hospital for treatment to minor injures.
A blue Renault Clio travelling behind the lorry was damaged when the second silo lid fell off the back. The female driver was unhurt. The lorry driver also escaped injury.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident.
A spokesman said: "At this time it is unclear how the lorry's load came off. We would like to hear from people who saw the lorry before the incident and during it."
