A reminder of tomorrow's village bonfire and fireworks display at Croft Farm, to be preceded by the traditional torchlight procession, leaving the village school at 7pm - torches available for purchase there. Admission to the field £2 children, £4 adults and £8 family ticket. If the midweek weather forecast is to be believed, wellies may be the best footwear whatever the overhead conditions, but the effort of attending this revived event is sure to be worthwhile.
With the recent spate of ceremonies and TV programmes to mark the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II, we have been reminded of the sacrifices and privations experienced by those who two generations ago fought and died for the freedoms we enjoy today. So it is hoped that there will be a good attendance at this year's Remembrance Day Service at St James's Church on Sunday week, November 13. Starting at 10.30am, it will be led by The Rev. Rosemary Herbert and the The Rev. Julian Charley. Afterwards, from around noon, the Royal British Legion will be extending a warm welcome to all to the club in Lower Road, where there will be light refreshments, a glass of wine and suitable entertainment (free of charge). Anyone who would like a lift to church or to the club afterwards please contact either Richard (893951) or Colin Hammond (573801).
On Saturday morning, November 26, the village hall committee is organising a Christmas Bazaar in aid of hall funds, while the same evening will see the first of the cricket club's winter quizzes, also at the hall. We hear that before then there will be some entertaining plays at St James's School which local residents will be welcome to attend - more details later!
