MALVERN United Angling Association held a silver fish only contest on their pool at Mathon last Sunday.
The large number of hungry carp are avoided and the idea is to target the skimmers, roach, rudd and tench that are also present.
Conditions were miserable with torrential rain for most of the match, hampering the fine presentation needed to tempt the smaller fish.
Coming out on top was Neil Humpage who drew peg 11 and fished a small waggler with maggot for a net of small roach and two small skimmers which weighed 2-4-0.
Runner-up was John Barr on peg 17 who employed pole tactics for a similar net of 2-1-0.
Ian Goddard took third spot from peg nine, also on the pole weighing 1-12-0.
The Winter League series starts on Sunday, November 13, with a match on the Severn at Holdfast, draw 9am, fish 9.30am-1.30pm.
