SEVERAL teams from thesoccersite.co.uk Malvern League were in action in round two of the WFA County Minor Cup on Sunday.
Three teams - Cross Keys, Talbot Head and Ganglands - went through with victories. Morgan Aero 8, who had a walkover, will join them in the last 32.
Current league leaders Cross Keys went to Kidderminster, where they came up against Olympic Cheshire. Following a superb all-round team performance, they progressed with a 3-0 victory.
Played in driving rain and strong winds, Cross Keys gave a solid first-half display and took the lead in injury time when Mike Cole fired-in a 25-yard shot.
The second-half saw Keys take the initiative with Steve Brook having an excellent game in the centre of defence and Dale Humphries giving an outstanding performance at full-back. Cross Keys deservedly increased their lead in the 68th minute when a Mike Cole volley from just inside the area flashed into the back of the net. Keys made the game safe in the 75th minute when Mike Cole lobbed the keeper from fully 40 yards for his hat-trick.
Ganglands continued their scoring spree with a convincing 5-2 victory over visitors Station Inn. Their goals came from Lewis Moss, Tom Bethell and a hat-trick from Gordon Mansell.
Talbot Head visited Bredon and a 3-2 victory sent them through. Talbot went behind in the 10th minute when David Schooling put through his own net but Danny Briscoe put them level in the 25th when he ran through and slotted home under the diving keeper. Talbot took the lead after a defender handled on the line and was sent off, Tom Hofton made no mistake with the resultant penalty. Bredon's 10 men did not give up and they made it 2-2. Talbot Head were made to work hard but another goal from Danny Briscoe saw them through.
Belmont Keys went out 1-6 at home to a strong Crowle side with their goal coming from Rob Jones.
Keys Victoria also went out but gave a spirited performance against Pinner Sports Reserves before conceding three unanswered goals.
In the league, Dynamo Ledbury took the opportunity to move up to second place with a 5-1 victory at Ledbury Rangers. Their goals came from Mitch Preedy, Scott Mason, Adam Thomas, Richard Punt and Nathan Dixon with Rangers' reply coming from Terry Bramley.
Oak Academy entertained Morgan Aero 8 and put up a good performance before going down to a late goal after being 2-1 up with only seven minutes to play. Dean Kibble gave Academy the lead but Steve Field made it 1-1 just after half-time.
Academy then regained the lead in the 53rd minute through Andrew Hadley and then kept Morgan Aero 8 at bay until the 83rd minute when Marcus Eden equalised. Morgan then snatched a late winner through Richard Bird.
Keyz 04 entertained a Fromes Hill side that had been involved in two successive 0-0 results and even though the visitors scored twice they found Keyz 04 going one better to win 3-2. Keyz 04 took the lead with an unstoppable shot from 18 yards by Andy Lancett. Ross Sweetman netted for the visitors with Chris Golding making it 2-1 for the home side. Fromes Hill then equalised from a penalty by Jason Bourne. Keyz 04 took the points when they were also awarded a penalty following Chris Golding being bought down, Andy Lancett stepped up to coolly slot home the kick.
Oak Misfits visited Fromes Hill Reserves and won 5-1 with goals from Martin Loveridge and two each for Chris Hodges and Asa Smith with Fromes Hill Reserves goal coming from Rich Scott.
This weekend sees the second round of the HFA Cup with four of the league's teams still involved.
