RANGERS travelled to the home of Wyrley Rangers midweek and were confronted by a very strong wind in the first half.

RIVERWAY 3, MALVERN RANGERS 0

After only six minutes, Riverway took the lead. A left-sided corner was met at the far post by Richard Weals, to head home.

Shortly afterwards, Sam Black had an opportunity but was probably too honest in not going down for a penalty and the chance was wasted.

Rangers seemed to have weathered the storm when, after 40 minutes, a left-sided cross was met at the far post by Mick Stark's head for number two.

Two minutes later a long kick by keeper John Edgnsor was headed backwards by Neil Bond but with keeper Ross Sanders already committed, the ball ended up in the back of the net.

Rangers had the advantage of the wind in the second-half and needed a good start. They were given a lifeline when awarded a penalty for a foul on Rob Cullen. He took the kick and Edgnsor saved it.

Shortly afterwards a Steve Maitland corner into the near post caused confusion but without any end result.

After 22 minutes, a great cross from Mike Cole saw a Rob Cullen shot strike a home defender to safety.

Ten minutes before the end, the home side's Stark had a goal disallowed at the far post for deliberate hand-ball, but without punishment.

After an encouraging first 40 odd minutes Rangers fell away quite badly afterwards and didn't really threaten other than the odd few times.

Man-of-the-match was Danny White.

Tomorrow (Saturday) Rangers, sponsored by the Cross Keys Inn, entertain Bridgnorth Town Reserves in a West Midlands division one fixture looking to avenge a 5-2 defeat inflicted on them a month ago. Kick off 2.15pm, players to meet at the ground 1pm.
