AFTER the exploits of cup success last week, Villagers looked to cause an upset against an unbeaten Saracen Rangers side.

VILLAGERS 1, SARACEN RANGERS 4

The game was one of good quality in poor conditions and with both sides willing to battle it was always going to be a tight one.

After 20 minutes, the only chances had fallen to visiting striker Adam Morse, who failed to test an impressive Jamie Plant in the Villagers goal.

Villagers' Adam Dover and Phil Dyde looked good in midfield and contested for every ball but it was Nathan Wanklin, who lobbed the keeper and defender from 25 yards in the 30th minute, that split the teams at half-time.

The game looked far from over as Saracen turned up the tempo and the lead only lasted 10 minutes into the half with Saracens equalising.

The Villagers now looked tired but Tom Smith was having a good game in defence and Mark Wilde back from injury also looked a solid addition to the team.

Saracen scored two more goals in a 10-minute period and the game looked over in the 75th minute.

After a Tom Smith free-kick, Nathan Wanklin turned his marker inside the box, only to be brought down for a penalty. Neil Morgan stepped up with confidence only to see his shot go wide of the goal.

Saracen then capped a great game of football with their fourth.

Villagers will have to improve if they are to test Saracen in the away fixture on Sunday at Diglis.

Men-of-the-match were Nathan Wanklin and Jamie Plant.
