FANTASTIC fireworks at Pitchcroft Racecourse will not only be a cracking family night out but will also make a real difference to community clubs in need.
We are re-launching the Worcester Round Table and Worcester News Making A Diff-erence Campaign. Cash raised at the bonfire night on Saturday will go into the pot ready to be shared out between local causes.
From groups on the brink of closure to community clubhouses that need a lick of paint, any organisation can apply for a grant by just filling out the form.
Worcester Baptist Church in Sansome Walk applied because its kitchen cooker badly needed replacing.
Roy Delo, the church administrator, said the £1,000 grant went towards a new stove and a new hood. He said: "The whole thing cost £8,000. It's really for our luncheon club, which feeds about 70 people a week. It gives us a chance to feed senior citizens at a modest price."
It was the largest grant the campaign has given away.
Church secretary Clive James, who originally applied for the grant but has since retired, said: "We recognise that the hard work and effort in raising and distributing funds to good, worthwhile and long-term causes will please so many people.
"It is knowing that something as simple as a gas cooker is able to give comfort and company to such a wide variety of people and groups not able to look after themselves."
The Pitchcroft fireworks display starts at 6.30pm on Saturday. Tickets cost £3 for adults, £2 for children, or £10 for a family.
