A NEW play to mark the 400th anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot will be staged at Coughton Court, near Alcester, on November 5, in place of a previously advertised Firework Extravaganza.
The fireworks were cancelled because of a lack of sponsorship, but the play Five Eleven will provide equally apt entertainment.
Presented by Historia Theatre Company, it looks at the subject of terrorism in a 17th Century context, telling the story of the Gunpowder Plot from its inception by the charismatic Robert Catesby.
It will document events up to the discovery of Guy Fawkes in the cellar below the Houses of Parliament and the shoot-out as the plotters - many of whom came from the Midlands with connections to Catholic families in Worcestershire - fled to avoid capture. Supper will be served after the performance. Tickets for both play and supper are £30 for adults and £15 for children.
For the play only, tickets are £15 for adults and £10 for children.
