A CROWN court recorder has deferred his attempt to help an habitual shoplifter by finding him a home when he leaves prison.
Andrew Newey had threatened to continue stealing when he left prison because he had no money or home.
Recorder David Jones had earlier offered at Worcester Crown Court to help Newey to end his "miserable existence".
When 29-year-old Newey appeared on remand on Friday, however, the recorder said he had been unable to find a quick solution.
He remanded him in custody for three weeks for the probation service and other agencies to find Newey accommodation.
Newey, formerly of Caldy Walk, Stourport, was before the court for sentence for stealing from Kidderminster shops and breaching an anti-social behaviour order. He told the court he still wished to lead a new life.
