Evesham 34pts, Handsworth 8
EVESHAM returned to winning ways with a comprehensive league win last Saturday.
Playing with the strong wind in their favour, the home side played sensibly and kept Hands-worth at bay for much of the game.
From good ruck ball on the Handsworth 22, the ball was spun to full-back Adam Huttle-stone who crashed over for a try.
He then added the extras as the home pack started to cause havoc in the opposition defence with skipper Luke Matthews and Sam Wigg making inroads.
From a penalty well inside the Handsworth half, scrum-half Chris Evis decided to run instead of kicking for goal and found evergreen No 8 Dave Scott lurking in support.
Scott took a lovely angle and saw off three would-be tacklers to cross for an excellent try.
Handsworth came back into the game and were rewarded with a penalty but this only spurred the Avon Street side into action.
From a scrum on the Hand-sworth ten-yard line, Evis broke blindside and popped a beautiful pass up for flanker Jim Moulton to power over.
The same player then crossed for a second that was converted as the hosts turned round 24-3 to the good.
Handsworth came back into the match but never really troubled the home side. They did cross for a deserved try but again Evesham showed their new-found resilience and powered back into attack.
Huttlestone again showed his talent and beat four defenders to score wide out.
It was left to veteran Pat Johnson to round-off a fine afternoon with the final try after a lovely series of play that led to a touch down in the corner.
