THREE members of South Worcester Lifeguards - Adrian Mayhew, Rob Inett and James Fletcher - travelled to Woolacombe to compete in the Triple Tow Surf Ironman relay event.
The event consists of a swim, run and surf ski that test the skills of the lifeguards' fitness and stamina.
The trio, under the guidance of coach Eddie Fletcher, arrived in good form and looking for a result.
The younger Fletcher set the pace in the swim when he went head-to-head with 2004 champion Andy Byatt and It was the Vale man who bolted out of the water to tag Mayhew in first place.
Runner Mayhew extended the lead when posting the fastest run split of the day before handing the baton to Inett who, in tough windy conditions, powered away in the choppy water to cross the line first.
There was even more good news for Inett who has been invited on to the selection committee for the British Lifesaving Team.
South Worcester Lifeguards meet on Sundays at 5.30pm at Pershore Swimming Pool.
