GREG Croydon took the honours at Redditch Sailing Club's Enterprise Open meeting.
The event took place in difficult conditions on Arrow Valley Lake, the light winds making for some exciting racing with plenty of changes of position.
Six visitors joined five Redditch boats to form a competitive fleet for what was also the penultimate event of the Midland's Double Chine Series, sponsored by Speed Sails.
Dave Jackson, sailing with Hilary Farmiloe, led the fleet away and was first to the windward mark closely followed by Steve Graham with Alison Torrens, and Croydon with Gail Ranford.
Croydon slid into the lead on the second lap and managed to pull away as the rest of the fleet fell into a windless zone. Graham came in second with Jackson finishing in third.
By the start of the second race the wind had picked up slightly and Jackson made another good start with the rest in hot pursuit.
Jackson and Croydon swapped places regularly, closely followed by Paul Young with Ian Smith, the trio breaking clear.
Jackson crossed the line first but was later disqualified for a start line incident which meant Croydon was declared the winner.
The third race proved the closest of the day with Graham establishing a clear lead with Young and Croydon following.
But luck smiled on the eventual champion as the leader sailed into a hole.
Croydon took top place ahead of Graham with Young in third.
