Worcs Senior Cup
Moor Green 2 Redditch Utd 1
ANOTHER cup and another defeat for Redditch as their Nationwide Conference North rivals claimed a place in the next round of the competition.
Goals at the start of each half put the Moors in the driving seat before Craig Wilding's effort 30 minutes from time gave the visitors a glimmer of hope.
The opening goal came after just five minutes. Reds keeper Lewis Solly managed to block a fierce Lee Collins shot but the influential Phil Trainer volleyed home moments later as the Redditch defence failed to clear.
Gary McPhee and Darren Middleton went close to adding to the tally before Solly produced an excellent save on the half-hour when he managed to push a David Morrison drive onto the crossbar.
The visitors upped their workrate just before the interval but the closest they came to an equaliser was when Simon Hollis whipped a ball across the area and Paul Moore was slow to react at the far post.
Solly survived a scare six minutes after the restart when the static Redditch defence were caught square and Middleton broke. The United keeper threw himself to block the shot outside his area but referee Watts ignored handball appeals.
But the Reds did not learn from that close call and the Moors doubled their lead two minutes later when Middleton broke free again and this time took the ball around the keeper before slotting into the empty net.
The goal saw the introduction of substitute Sean Flynn and he immediately brought some order to the Reds.
Wilding reduced the arrears on 59 minutes, lifting the ball over the advancing keeper following a neat exchange between Scott Rickards and Danny Scheppel, but the visitors failed to put the home goal under any further pressure.
