A DROITWICH woman who worked at a nursery where a seven-month-old boy died has been cleared of manslaughter after prosecutors offered no evidence.

Nicola Haglington, 29, of Impney Green in the town pleaded not guilty to the manslaughter of Cameron Lindsay.

He died in hospital on March 30, 2004, a day after his head was wedged between the seat and hood of a baby bouncer at the Sticky Fingers Nursery in Highfield Road, Bromsgrove.

Haglington was charged alongside nursery owner Dawn Wilson, aged 45, of Plymouth Road, Barnt Green and Rebecca Lamare, 21, of Housman Close, Bromsgrove.

Prosecutor Philip Parker QC told Worcester Crown Court there was insufficient evidence to prove the defendants could have foreseen the risk of death.

He offered no evidence and Judge Michael Mott recorded not guilty verdicts. Haglington and Lamare were granted costs.

But Wilson, who is the wife of UB40 musician Terrance 'Astro' Wilson, faces prosecution under the Health and Safety at Work Act.

It is charged that between February 23 and March 30, 2004, she failed to ensure persons employed by her were not exposed to health and safety risks.

Mark Wall, on her behalf, asked for an adjournment. A plea and directions hearing will be held on November 25. Wilson was granted bail.

In a statement afterwards Rebecca Lamare said: "The loss of baby Cameron was a terrible tragedy not least for his family and prior to today, because of the very protracted police enquiry, I have not been able to express my sorrow to his family. It is unforgiveable that it has taken the police and the Crown Prosecution Service nearly a year to finalise their investigation, during which time I have been subjected to arrest and interviews.

"I have constantly denied the allegations they made against me. Now after many months of me being on bail to the Crown Court the prosecution accepts there is no evidence to suggest I was responsible, in any way, for Cameron's tragic death.

"This appalling delay must have caused additional stress and anxiety to Cameron's family. I know it has to me and my family. I am so grateful to my family and friends for their constant support."
