STUDLEY Parish Church has reached its fundraising target of £90,000 two months ahead of schedule.

The Rev Richard Deimel, of St Mary's Church, said he has been astonished by the generosity of people, which had allowed them to reach the target of their two-year long Vision 900 Appeal.

The challenge was to raise £90,000 by the end of this year, marking the 900th anniversary of the Castle Road church.

The money will be spent revamping the church's cloakrooms and improving access for the disabled.

Mr Deimel said: "I never expected to raise this fantastic amount in two years. This has come about through a combination of many people's hard work raising funds and generous personal gifts."

He added: "The people of Studley have amazed me again with their faith and love."

By Mr Deimel said the fundraising would continue until the construction work is complete, in case final costs are greater than expected.

"The church can now apply for planning permission and work on final designs for the extension," he added.

The next money-spinning event is a chocolate night at Studley Parish Centre on November 16.

Chocoholics are invited to find out how their favourite treats are made, dip into a chocolate fountain and try their luck at games and a raffle.

Tickets are £5 and are available from Mr Deimel on 852830 or Beverly Dunkley on 857011.
