TRIBUTES to stalwarts who in the closing years of the last century founded the Bromsgrove And District Farmers Club and those who had strengthened it featured in speeches at the annual dinner of the club at the Raven Hotel, Droitwich. The value of the organisation, both in its contribution to greater efficiency of the local agriculture and as a means of bringing farmers together socially, was generally stressed.
A PROPOSAL to sell a piece of land at Barnt Green for building development in order to raise capital for the improvements of the neighbouring Sandhills Farm led to a three hour investigation held at St Andrew's Hall, Barnt Green. A local enquiry was led into an appeal against Bromsgrove Rural District Council to permit erection of two detached houses on just over half an acre of land at Coopers Hill. The council had objected mainly on the grounds of the site being in green belt and outside the area included for development in the county plan.
THE greater part of a two-hour session at the annual meeting of Rubery Citizens Association was devoted to dress regulations at Bromsgrove High School and diversion of a footpath between New Road and lower Callowbrook Lane. There was considerable criticism that high school dress must be bought at specified shops and resolutions were passed favouring the formation of a PTA at all schools, and asking the citizens association's committee to send a delegation to meet high school governors.
JUVENILE hunter trials, organised mainly to encourage the young and inexperienced among pony riders, were held at Burcot Farm. There was an entry on the day of over 80 and to crown the day for the youngsters Dawn Palethorpe of Blakedown, the new queen of British show jumping went to distribute the prizes.
