THE future of floodlighting at a Wootton Wawen church has been secured after generous residents stepped forward to take part in a shareholding scheme.
We reported last month that St Peter's Church asked residents to take on a share of the floodlighting after the annual £3,000 electricity bill became too expensive for the church.
And 22 generous residents have agreed to pay £30 for a month of the lighting, covering the lighting for nearly the next two years.
Church warden Steve Wiseman said the response had been phenomenal and they were still getting calls and were considering whether to carry on filling spaces into 2008.
"It was originally a temporary thing at Christmas, but was so popular we got some lights professionally put up, and now it looks like they're here to stay," he said.
