A FINE first-half performance saw Droitwich record an excellent 27-21 victory over Midlands Four West (South) table-topping Edwardians.

Droitwich were helped by a strong wind in the first period and immediately established forward supremacy.

A line-out take by Paul Sweeney was driven forward for captain Nick Godfrey to be held up short for Steve Poke to dart over in the corner.

More pressure by the hosts saw Phil Horton charge down a clearance and number eight Jimmy Richardson took the ball on before cleverly off-loading to Leon Hopkins to double the lead.

Confusion in the Edwardians defence was seized upon by Ben Cottrell to set up Will Bolton for another fine score. Another lineout drive by the Spa side saw Godfrey touchdown.

Debutant fly-half Phil Murphy then switched the play to set up Richardson for a 20-metre dash for the line. Edwardians hit hack with two penalties.

The second period was tougher for Droitwich as Edwardians had the wind advantage and upped their work rate.

Two tries got the visitors back into the game but good Droitwich defence kept them at bay.
