MORE than 500 people bagged a cheap compost bin as part of a promotion during national composting awareness week which finished at the weekend.
Wyre Forest District Council teamed up with Original Organics to offer cut-priced bins for between £10 and £17, not including delivery.
Rebecca Robinson, who has just been appointed waste reduction officer at the council to spearhead recycling initiatives, urged households to take advantage of the offer which is continuing.
"The majority of people throw their vegetable peelings, eggshells, tea bags and garden scraps into their wheelie bin without thinking about where they end up," she said.
People can instead dispose of this type of waste in a green way and benefit from the compost produced later, she added.
