WHAT a week that was - a week that changed a lot of things in our country.

Strangely, I'd just written my bit for last week about how great it was for the Olympics to be heading our way and then, on Thursday morning, we started getting reports of explosions in London, and we know the rest.

Much has been written and talked of those terrible events and there's little for me to add, but you wonder what makes people want to do that? Very sad.

It is very difficult to stop someone if they are determined to cause havoc in a public place.

I went to Gatwick Airport last weekend, twice. I was thinking as I parked the car in the car park next to the terminal and walked into arrivals, there were a lot of bags about.

Although there were armed police on patrol, it did strike me that I could have walked in there with a bag with anything in it. But, as I say, how can you control everything without closing down all public places. I do recall being in Birmingham in the 1970s when the Rotunda and other places were bombed. In a way, the British are very resilient and the next night the pubs were full and the cinemas were all busy.

Why, Bradders, I hear you ask, did you go to Gatwick Airport on successive days?

Well, my nipper had gone to Florida two weeks ago on a Saturday and, if you go on Saturday, you come back on Saturday, right?

So I get up at 2.30am on Saturday to be at Gatwick for 5.30am, checking flights in from Florida, and the 5.40 is a bit late.

Plane lands, baggage is cleared, but no daughter. I ask at the desk. "Yes," says the man, "the flight has landed and all the baggage has gone." So I says: "Why was my child not on it?" He asks for the flight number, which I give him.

"You, sir, are a day early. That flight comes in tomorrow."

So the next morning, I'm up at 2.30am, and this time the plane does land, and my little dear is on it. So if you want to know the way to Gatwick...

The Ashes series starts next week, an I for one am really looking forward to it.

Lets hope for a summer of sunshine and great cricket and may the best team win - as long as it's England.
