HAVE you noticed there are a lot of awards ceremonies these days? Now don't get me wrong I think there a lot of people who deserve accolades for their work, or their hobby or whatever.
But in the last few weeks we've heard all about the Baftas, the Oscars, the Brits, the Emmys and the like.
And all the same people seem to be at these awards.
We have awards for people in radio, and I'm sure if I won one I might change my mind, but that is not likely to happen is it!
The awards I like are the sort you get at the Three Counties Show, the men, and women who have worked on the land all their lives, or have been on the same farm or estate for 50 years, now they deserve some credit methinks.
If someone wants to nominate me for an award I'll see if it changes my mind!
I'm not sure if they do it any more but in industry they used to present people with watches and clocks for long service.
At one place I worked in the past the boss was very clever and bought a batch of gold watches.
Rumour was he'd had them for about 20 years, and everyone who retired got one, just a bit of engraving on the back.
One of the "long-servers" who had never really got on with the boss came to retire.
Workmates
When the gaffer presented him with his watch in front of his workmates, he promptly gave it back and said "if that's all I'm, worth after 27 years of working here you can stick it ... "
Funny but of all the long service awards we had this was the one everyone remembered.
If an award ceremony invitation is not going to drop on the Bradders mat in the near future, how about a wedding invite.
I have booked the 8th of April off, just in case Chas and Cammy want me to go along to add some profile to the Royal event.
To be honest I've heard enough about this already, the media, of which I guess I am a part, love these sorts of things and we really do go for it in a big way.
There are times when I feel sorry for the royals, they can never do some of the things we do, like going down the Barmaid's Bosom for a pint, watching the Warriors, watching the City, having a bet, going to New Road on a hot summers day, although I guess if they did they might not have to pay.
Big job
Come to think of it Charles could nip into the Barmaid's and half of the regulars wouldn't know who he was.
Thanks to Malvern Rugby Club, and I popped in there on Saturday afternoon, they had raise a cheque of £1,000 for the Bradders Moustache Appeal, and as ever a warn welcome, and a decent game on watch.
Went to see the City on Monday, and they are not playing too well at the moment, but I wish Andy Preece well, he's got a big job on his hands.
By the way where were all the supporters on Monday, the gate dropped by about a third from Saturday, were they that bad ?
Put 23rd April in your diary... more later.
