APRIL 23 - St George's Day. I hope all English men and women have their cross of St George flying from their bedroom windows.

I went to London on Monday.

Now, I am not one of these country boys who moans about the towns and how much better the countryside is to the big city.

But, blimey, it is a tiring place.

I like my fresh air and open spaces and, to be honest, the thought of being stuck in a little metal tube with 80 other hot and sweaty bodies for an hour to get to work fills me with dread.

I like the way you can walk from one famous place to another, from Covent Garden to Piccadilly Circus to Leicester Square to Trafalgar Square, like on a Monopoly board, but it's all a bit too much of a hurly-burly for me.

It is amazing how the countryside has changed in the past few days. The buds have budded, all the spring flowers have gone mad, and the birds are totally confused.

I drove over Fromes Hill one morning this week and the whole of Herefordshire and the Welsh Marches were laid our in front of me. That is one great view.

And, I thought to myself, what a wonderful world (I might write a song with that line in one day).

It was amazing after Wednesday when the racegoers at Worcester were deluged, I thought it was only at the start of the cricket season that it poured down.

It was good to attend the chairman's lunch on Tuesday at New Road, and it was nice to see some old faces. Yes, most of them are still there having survived another winter. First game at home next week. I might pop in.

Good luck to "Bumpy" who announced this is his last season in Championship Cricket. He has been a great performer and is a good bloke as well.

I'm off to Sixways tomorrow for the last game in Division One, and no doubt the "Bees" will be out to spoil the party. But, if the Warriors win, that'll make it a league season unbeaten.

And on Sunday morning it's the civic reception at the Guildhall. I'm going, well I haven't been invited but I'll be doing the show from there, so if you can't get along, listen in.

Don't forget the St George's Day Concert in Malvern tonight, at the Forum, starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are available on the door, only £9.
