DANCE enthusiasts are in for a treat this month when a prestigious theatrical company stages a performance at the Malvern Theatres.
The Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company is presenting the world premiere of Flicker, featuring new music written by the iconic composer Michael Nyman, at the theatre.
The performance uses dance to explore the boundless opportunities we find for the expression, extension, deception and distortion of our own identities, according to a spokeswoman for the theatre, in Malvern's Grange Road.
"Nyman's electronic score reflects Jeyasingh's edgy choreography as her dancers explore the flickering interfaces through which our artificial identities come to life," she added.
"Nyman incorporates Indian rhythms into his score which combines pre-recorded, sampled and electronically-manipulated sounds.
"Rhythms emerging from Jeyasingh's choreography will be worked back into the score, creating a unique dynamic between music and dance."
The dance will be staged on Thursday, February 24, at 7.30pm, and tickets, which cost £10 or £12 and £7 for students, can be obtained by calling the box office on 01684 892277 or online at www.malvern-theatres.co.uk
