ONE of Worcestershire's star attractions is going into hibernation for the winter.
The spectacular Perseus and Andromeda fountain at Witley Court, Great Witley, near Worcester, will be fired for the last time this year at 4pm on Monday.
The imposing 25-tonne masterpiece, featuring a monstrous serpent, dolphins, giant sea shells and sea nymphs, has been delighting visitors all season with its 29 separate jets, fired with a noise like an approaching steam train.
Standing 30ft high, it cost the equivalent of more than £1m when it was created in the 1860s as the centrepiece of the court's elegant gardens, now an English Heritage site.
"We've had a wonderful season with the fountain. Visitors of all ages enjoy it and it's an experience they never forget," said Mark Badger, of English Heritage.
"This week is your last chance to see this fabulous fountain in all its glory until next Easter."
The grounds, gardens and woodland walks at Witley Court will remain open throughout the winter, apart from Christmas and New Year.
