POWICK continued their push for top spot in the Worcester Saturday premier division and saw off the challenge of a Lamb and Flag side recently buoyed by a five-goal victory over Martley.

POWICK 6, LAMB & FLAG 1

It was the visitors who took the lead after only four minutes from a deflected free-kick that gave goalkeeper Stu Hart no chance.

Powick were slow to settle, but despite this, two swift strikes from the prolific Stu Harvey calmed the Powick nerves and having put their noses in front, Powick were never to look back.

Despite making changes from the previous week, the rotation policy of manager Andy Brown paid off and the spirit of the team showed through. A fantastic goal scored by man-of-the-match Badham gave Powick a two-goal cushion and for the final 30 minutes of the match, Powick knocked the ball around with confidence. Dale Humphries and half-time substitute Jamie Abba combined well to allow the latter to slot home a thunderbolt of a shot from close range.

Powick continued to press and it was little surprise that the hard-working Harvey completed his hat-trick with a cool finish.

With the defensive trio of Hodge, Lewis and Lynch composed as ever, Powick rarely looked in trouble in the latter stages and might have had more than just the final goal in the dying minutes by Harvey.

With all 14 players fully involved in a committed performance, Powick have placed themselves in a decent position to achieve their title ambitions, though clearly there is a long way still to go.

Powick face a challenging fixture in the shape of Malvern Rangers in an intriguing WFA cup match scheduled for a 2pm kick-off at Victoria Park tomorrow (Saturday).
