WEST Malvern continued their impressive form on Saturday with a convincing 7-2 league victory over Goodrest Sports.
WEST MALVERN 7, GOODREST SPORTS 2
The West opened brightly and the new partnership up front of Derek Brown and Matt Jacklin troubled the Goodrest back-four continuously.
The West should have been in front inside ten minutes when a good run from Matt Jacklin and his resulting shot came back off the inside of the crossbar. But they broke the deadlock after 17 minutes when once again Matt Jacklin created problems and his partially-saved effort was tucked home with confidence by Dave Kelm.
Goodrest responded quickly and, from a corner after 20 minutes, equalised. The remainder of the first-half was a ding-dong affair.
After 55 minutes, the West were back in front. A long throw found Derek Brown just inside the box, who headed home. Within three minutes they were 3-1 up when a ball into the box was driven in by Dave Kelm for his second goal.
The West continued to press forward and after 65 minutes, Derek Brown was on hand once again to drive the ball home.
On the 70th minute, Goodrest reduced the arrears but West hit back and Matt Jacklin was rewarded by scoring number five.
The West still looked for goals and after 75 minutes, Gareth Newton scored from the edge of the box. In the 80th minute, substitute Ian Hughes fired home after Matt Jacklin's effort had been parried.
West Malvern, sponsored by Amey and the Cross Keys, play a County Cup match tomorrow (Saturday) against Burlish Olympic Youth FC. Kick-off 2pm, players report to dressing room at 1.15pm.
