IT was interesting to read on the front page of the Ledbury Reporter (October 21) that Herefordshire Council says Ledbury needs a further 175 affordable housing units in the next five years. Of greater concern is where will these be built?
So much of the recent infilling that has been sanctioned is unaffordable for local people. New luxury flats are up for sale in New Street, 11 quality homes look set to be built in Albert Road, in spite of vigorous campaigning at the unsuitability of the site.
Herefordshire Council is turning a deaf ear to what residents are saying, as well as ignoring the town council's views. Leadon Bank is another example. No-one can afford to be complacent about unsuitable building developments any more - not if they wish Ledbury to stay an attractive and unspoilt market town.
