SIR - I would like to correct one inaccuracy in your report of the inspection of the county council's adoption service.

You rightly comment on the many positives, but as you say, the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) did suggest that more adopted children may benefit from life story work.

There was, however, never any suggestion that adoptive parents are not given full details. The work suggested for the children is a separate issue. Adoptive parents are provided with all the information we have. It is their right to have this and essential for the parenting task they are taking on.

Your report may give the wrong impression to anyone who may be considering adoption and there are children in this county who are waiting now for adoptive parents. If anyone is thinking about applying, please phone us on 0800 0282158. We would be delighted to hear from you.

ANNE BINNEY,

Head of Children's Social Care Services.

The report reads: "Adopters spoken to said the children that were placed with them had very little life story work with them. Inspectors found no evidence of life story work in young people's files." We stand by our report. - Letters Editor.
