A WYRE Forest councillor has called for an alcohol ban in all Kidderminster parks to tackle the problem of anti-social behaviour.
Councillor Fran Oborski, who sits on both the district and county councils, wants the crackdown after receiving complaints from Comberton residents worried about youths drinking alcohol and "taking over" Borrington Park at night.
Police confirmed they have stepped up patrols in the park after three incidents, including one when rubbish was set alight, were reported in the last month.
Wyre Forest Liberal councillors have called for action to combat the vandalism they fear is hindering the "enormous progress" already made in addressing nuisance behaviour.
Mrs Oborski said she welcomed the initiative to stop drinking in Brinton Park but feared, unless the scheme was extended, the problem would be passed on.
She explained: "I understand why the council wants to ban drinking in Brinton Park but that will just have the knock-on effect of spreading the problem to other parks around the town.
"I know there are also problems in Springfield and St George's parks. That is why it would be sensible to have a total alcohol ban."
Mrs Oborski added she had proposed the move in both district council scrutiny and cabinet meetings when the Brinton Park alcohol ban was discussed.
Alison Braithwaite, the council's strategy, partnership and communications manager, confirmed Wyre Forest Community Housing Group, which owns Borrington Park, had made contact but no formal request for a restriction zone had been made.
Inspector Paul Crowley, of Kidderminster police, said: "The police are consulted on proposed schemes and are always keen to support anything that reduces crime and disorder.
"Our recommendations to the local authority take into account the number of complaints received."
